I'm just curious if anyone knows of any open mic venues for locals who want to do comedy.

I would jump on this.

The best comedy writers typically give away their material to strangers on the internet...

Firing blanks in the dark ≠networking

Most unknown comedy writers would deliver their material themselves at an open mic night. How do you even know this guy has any comic timing, or can even speak a straight sentence?

I spent 2 years as a comedy promoter for comedians from the Howard Stern show (also produced a show for Howard TV). I am very familiar with the comedy world. A few months ago, I hosted Lisa Lampenelli's opener (and main joke writer) on their recent visit to the Palms.

I can assure you offering jokes to random strangers who want to try their first open mic night will not take you very far.

I have comedy chops, and I have done stand up (failed terribly, stage fright) but have written comedy (My stuff has been used by a major comic)

But I have gotten rusty over the years, and would like to stretch my muscles
So if some brand new guy comes along, and wants to do open mic, and I meet with him, and we click, and he likes my comedy and I like his timing
who knows what will happen.. and worse case?

I write some material and it bombs.

Its not my living! - I can afford to give away stuff, for me its a win-win

PS: I was interviewed by stern

I think I do remember laughing out loud at a recent post of yours in another thread.

If you want to get your material out there but don't want to perform, I would go to an open mic night and talk to the comedians you think were funny after the show. Buy them a beer. Tell them you write jokes.

In my experience, most comedians are very critical of other people's material (specifically non-comedians) and they might not be open to even listening to your jokes much less using them on stage. They tend to think they are the only funny people in the world.

But at least by watching the comedians first you will have an idea who would be a good fit for your material.
