That is probably the biggest reason. At least it was in the beginning of the housing boom in the late 80's early 90's. Inflation of the housing market in Calif had people selling homes for 400K that they had bought for 40K. Then they moved to Las Vegas and bought 80K homes for a "cheap" 120K, thinking they could retire on their profits. In Europe it would have been considered an invasion and would have started a civil war. The Bosnian War was over a lot less immigrants than the number of Californians taking over Nevada. According to the LA Times Californians at first looked at Las Vegas as a bedroom community. They were laughing at our stupidity in selling homes so cheap. Most of them ended up taking jobs making a lot less than they'd made in Calif though. Then people all over the planet began hearing about our housing boom, and they came in droves from everywhere.

Thanks alot for the info, greatly appreciated. I didn't know about the wait time to get a taxi license.
Love all the "positive" input. I am trying to research many different options for driving jobs before we move.

You got that right, but really dyni, can you blame them? We can only keep what we enjoy here a secret for so long.

Good luck twistedscorpion!

That was a bit before my time, but I remember my aunt and uncle telling me and my folks about those "great deals" to buy a house here in LV that came "with everything" lol.

My aunt and uncle who bought "out in the boonies" off Vegas Drive back in the early 50's, bought one of the three (colonial, modern, contemporary) furniture packages that the builder offered as a "add on" with their home, lol.

Worked out great for people who were moving here from far away and didn't want the work/expense of hauling their stuff here.

Those were the days

Jerry May offered me a house for nothing down and $135.00 a month, fully furnished, blackout drapes, block walls, landscaping, etc. I was paying $125.00 a month rent for a furnished apartment and didn't think I could afford a $10.00 increase. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

Oh well, I was pretty young. We ended up paying 20,900 for a house two years later, and my MIL gave us the $2,000 down payment. I think my first wife's third husband got $65,000 for it after she passed.
