we just converted ours to desert and I am loving it.When they built our home they installed grass in the front which was a waste because it was basically 2 strips of grass on either side.My neighbor remarked once that it probably took longer to prep the mower than it took to actually cut the grass!lol.Anyhow if you converted your front to desert did you get any money back from the LVVWD?

You have to have someone from the water district verify the size and condition (has to be living) of your grass before you convert it to be eligible for the conversion rebate. Also, it is only $1.50 per square foot, so you probably only missed out on some pocket change.

Grass is under a restraining order to stay at least 100 yards from my property. That, and no pool, is the first thing we look for in a home. I removed a large front lawn at our previous home, but I don't remember asking, let alone getting anything from the Water District.

Once grass has grown there, it will usually try to come back. Grass spreads from the roots as well as the seeds. You have to watch it, and when you see any, pull out the roots. And if you see even one blade, don't let it go to seed.

We have rocks and dirt. Hate it. Lots of desert plants, like those. Especially when they bloom in spring, early summer and late summer. Otherwise, I hate the barren look. And wish I were in Michigan.

I have a very small grassy patch. Wish I could convince my landlord rocks would be way better! Was hard keeping it green this past summer. Think cause it's on a slant and the water just runs off. =(

Because that dead grass is just playing possum. Then you'd have rocky place with grass that you couldn't cut because the rocks are in the way. Hmmmm. Sounds like my life.

We converted ours from grass to desert landscape. I can't remember how much money we received but I'm pretty sure it was over $1000. Along with our grass we had a tree with exposed roots lifting our driveway-We were really happy to get rid of that tree.

My only regret is not making the landscaper put down mesh to help control the weeds. If you convert your yard from grass to desert landscape make sure to put down a weed barrier otherwise you will be pulling weeds in no time after the job is done.

One other thing is that I swear the SNWA person that came out told me if you use the grass rebate program & you don't have a pool, you or anyone else that may own the home cannot install a pool or any other water feature. Am I imagining that or is that right?

Aerate . . may require supplemental watering the previous day for full spike penetration.
