Hmm...

I have a subscription to Consumer Reports Online and there is NO rating of water softeners on their site. They have content up to April 2013 on their site, so unless the ratings were in the May or June 2013 issue, I'd have to say you were either a liar, or at least grossly misinformed.

Furthermore, if you know anything about Kinetico, you know that they'll always be LAST (highest) in cost of ownership, as they cost 3x-10x what similar performing water treatment devices from other mfgrs cost.

Their RO filter is 10x the cost of others with identical performance and more convenient and cheaper filter changes.

Let me guess. Your user name is short for "Kinetico Water Treatment."

There's nothing like getting unbiased information straight from the marketing arm of the most overpriced system in America.

Good afternoon Kinetico dealer! I came to point out your obvious bias, but every poster between us beat me to it.

Just wanted to add that my (relatively) cheap computerized Fleck valve and generic tanks are doing a great job of softening my water still. I have a brother in law that is going the same route due to the hard water spotting on his dishes (absolutely ruins plastic spatulas/spoons).

I'd still advise any friend/non-enemy to shop around and buy where you find the best deal online with generic softening equipment paired with a Fleck valve. I base this advice on initial cost + cost of ownership alone.

Online is cheapest. If you've already got a loop with threaded ends (connected with a flexible pipe), installation is easy.

I bought mine from Water-Tec (and had them install it), as did another poster in this thread. They're located just east of the airport.

Water Tec of Tucson, Inc.

I got mine from qualitywaterforless.com. Took 2-3 days to process and 2-3 days to ship to Vegas. They have great customer service if you have questions or difficulty choosing a model.
