Has anyone seen any of these yet in LV. They are suppose to be trialing them in some areas. I know this spring they had a big kick off with the Governor having a ride in one. Or did this die off.

Haven't seen the cars on the street. They have red license plates and imaging gear on the roof, so they would be easy to spot.

The technology is still developing and Nevada is the only state to allow the cars to be licensed.

Seems the Google cars obeys all speed limits, which is a challenge since nobody else does.

At some point, most professional driving will be done by computer. This is another profession that's going to go away.

The company doing the trial has had a few job ads out there.

I haven't seen any. At least that I'm aware of. I think the cars do have a driver in the seat though.

Pretty much. Soon the only jobs that will be in the US will be creative and/or managerial jobs that can't be automated. The bulk of the rest of the jobs will either be automated or offshored.

In the 1960's The company my father worked for bought a machine that did the same thing my dad did, but faster and more efficiently.

My Mother went out and bought one the next day.

I saw it before the story came out. I thought it was taking pictures for google maps but when I saw the story I realized it was a driverless car. It was in Cent Hills.

These cars are not driverless, and will not likely ever be. I'm sure a lot of interesting new tech will come out of the work they're doing however there is no replacement for human intelligence yet and until we've created a completely new type of 'computer' that is able to truly think.

Calling these cars 'self driving' and attributing 'artificial intelligence' to the rule based systems they use is falling for marketing BS.

The "Actual" term used is "Autonomous"

Or as the Marketing dept of Google™ would call it

Autonomous
