The one I heard the most before moving hear was "So you are going to be a professional gambler?" That was sometimes followed by "Or you're going to become a stripper?"

Yeah, right.

When We told my mom we were retiring there, she said she is going to move there after we do.. And she is 80 this year..She loves the Buffetts and the occasional Gambling.. etc etc..

NOW the one thing that really gets me is when you mention Las Vegas to people (Intelligent people) they act as if they don't have a clue that Las Vegas is a real city and has all the amenities of any other city... They just think it is a HUGE Gambling playground... How the Hell do they think people survive if there is nothing but casinos and hotels.. Where do they think people live, or get groceries or go to school..etc etc...

People associate the tourist attractions with the city as a whole. For example, you can live in Virginia Beach and be 15 miles from a beach.

Unless a tourist rents a car and drives around the WHOLE valley, sow do they know that there are real live neighborhoods in the area.

I thought that it would be great to stay with friends in lieu of paying for a hotel. However, there is a great deal of truth to the saying that "fish and guests stink after three days.".

Today, we went walking in a park. It was dusk and there was a company picnic going on. Music was playing, children were chasing each other and laughing while grillers were piling on the burgers. THIS is "my" Las Vegas. The one on the Strip is for those who don't live here. My friends back in Nashville think it is one big party too...which is funny since they deal with the same stereotypes about all of Nashville being one big country music scene.

When I first moved here, I did party a lot, but not on the strip. I have never found it fun to go down on the strip...parking, walking, crowds, traffic, etc. The only time that go down there is when visitors come.

My life is very normal.

Sure people always have preconceived notions about places they've never lived. When I lived in Newport Beach people thought everyone was like the TV shows Laguna Beach, the Real Housewives, and the OC. When I lived in Hawaii people thought the locals lived in huts. Basically, most people are dumb.

Vegas markets itself to the masses as sin city - what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas. Personally, I'm not the guy that stays away from the strip. Most weekends I'm not in bed until the sun comes up.

Several of my friends like to say "LV is a great place to live, but I wouldn't want to visit here."
