sorry to be lazy and not look this up myself, but do you guys know if there are any theaters that show indie films around LV? my guess is that w/ a decent sized college pop., there has to be something around, but haven't really looked into it yet.

any ideas?

**BTW...the subject came up at dinner welcoming new scientists to LV. all of us have come to LV for the great research opportunities (hydrologists, geologists, microbiologists, computer-based modelers, etc.) and the feeling i got was that everyone was happy with their new home (LV). Vegas has begun to attract more and more science & technology people - in fact, within the next year, there will be an internationally renowned science competition held here w/ some of the world's best and brightest young researchers showcasing their talents. (wow...i just hijacked my own thread w/in the OP...lol)

The indie theatres have bitten the dust one at a time over the years. Once in a while you'll catch an indie film in a limited, short release at Sahara/Ft. Apache or Sam's Town, but don't hold your breath. I suggest you get a Netflix account and a projection tv and invite us over!

Even though UNLV has a big enrollment, its population resembles that of a community college - older students who work full time and spend little time on or near campus - than a university. That's why the culture on Maryland Pkwy. is so limited. It's mind boggling really.

Unfortunately Chest is dead on with his post. I did what he suggested, get a big tv and a Netflix account. It's been a life saver this past summer.

Well said...nobody in their right mind would ever consider Las Vegas a college town. UNLV ranks right up there with CCSN...it just costs more to go to UNLV!

Besides...I don't think there's been any Indiana Jones movies out in awhile!
