Hello All,

My fiancee, two year old son and I are moving to Las Vegas in the beginning of September. We want to move to Henderson but stay within 15 to 20 minutes away from the Strip. Can anyone please suggest an up-kept, child friendly apartment complex? I have done a lot of research but would still appreciate helpful suggestions. The top three complexes I have as contenders are Horizon Ridge, Villa Serena and Arabella Apartments. Please let me know your thoughts or any other complexes that I should look into. Thank you so much!!

I too am looking at apartments, just in the research stage. i found you post helpful because I had not heard of any of those apartments. From looking at your suggestions I found the Horizon Ridge Park more to my liking.

The places I was looking at are Boca Raton, Park Avenue, One Las Vegas, and Manahattan. Also look at townhouses or homes for rent in the specific area code you'd like to live in. There doesn't seem to be a shortage of rentals.

Like i said, I am only researching, so I cannot comment on the actual properties. I seen a post about the Manhattan having squatters in the units and other undesirable comments, but I am sure the same can be said for others, no place is perfect. Hopefully we have people that actually live in these places here on the board and can comment.

Not too many places in the nicer parts of Henderson are within 20 minutes of the Strip if you plan to drive during rush hour. The areas I suspect you would like to live in are in Anthem/Seven Hills or Green Valley Ranch. Outside of rush hour those are just about 20 minutes away from Mandalay Bay as long as you aren't too deep into the communities. If you are further in it will take you 15 minutes just to get to the freeway.

Unless you are a problem or professional gambler [mod cut-off topic] after about six months you'll more than likely want to be as far from the Strip as possible. But everything is relatively close to the Strip, and how long it takes to get there depends on the time of day. I have a theory that the furthest apartments from the Strip are also probably the nicest ones. And "safe" is relative. You aren't "safe" anywhere in this world.

Agreed with all points. Also, the Las Vegas valley is shaped like a lop-sided bowl. The best places to live are on the rim of the bowl.

C'mon, Buzz, just because you've become jaded after decades here doesn't mean the rest of us have.

I bought in my development specifically to be close to the Strip (~8 minutes) and couldn't imagine not going there several times a week (at least when I'm in town, of course) for either gambling, shows, shopping, or just people-watching and general entertainment. In fact, if it wasn't for the Strip, I wouldn't have moved to Vegas at all.

Now maybe your six month time-frame was an understatement and I'll eventually begin to think as you do, but after 2 1/2 years I'm still pretty excited by the Strip and don't see that changing anytime soon.

Its funny; my friend is looking for a place to live and her Realtor has to tell her how close to the strip she is with every property. My friend finally had to tell her "I really don't care about the strip, I just want a nice house with a pool!"

The strip is not what made me decide to buy here. I have zero interest in it. I do like to attend shows etc, but that's it. My home is a pretty good distance from the strip, just the way I like it.

The only reason I go to the strip is because I work there. It is a solid 30 minute commute because it is impossible to live any further away and still be considered "in the Las Vegas valley."

It will be the happiest day of my life when I can move even further away from the strip.
