Strip casinos should be like that, just a lot bigger.

But then again, the only reason I ever set foot in one is to either go to work, watch a concert or eat at a restaurant. I'm not the sort of person casinos try to attract.

PS -- And getting rid of the Caesar's iconic entrance should have been a punishable crime against this city.
You nailed it Scoop, I probably should have been more clear. The themed hotels are different and City Center looks like a big glass monolith with absolutely no personality. Fountainebleu is starting to look like a truck stop with all the trailers parked in the lot betwen it and Sahara/SLS.

I would never want to see it changed too much. When we want the expsreince of true class and glamour we spend time on the strip. When we want to be reminded of real Vegas and days gone by, plus visit with some fun people, from all over the country and play some games without using our entire gambling budget we spend time downtown. There are some great restaurants, the light shows are fun and the atmosphere is festive all the time. Of course downtown isn't for everyone, but it works for us. Before the Fremont experience was added it was truely a pit, but not anymore.
Yes but that's just one street. Obviously you can't judge a city with dozens of streets one just ONE street. I found Vegas' downtown outside of Fremont just dead. There was hardly anyone around and it didn't look welcoming at all.

If you would have gone a couple blocks north to Stewart Street you would have seen the wonderful Mob Museum that opened last year.

Or, if you headed down Main Street and then west on Bonneville, you would have found a large outdoor shopping mall.

Las Vegas Premium Outlets - North

Also in the same area (and actually a bit closer to Fremont) is the new Smith Center for the Performing Arts.

Downtown is also home to the Las Vegas Arts District where you can find several eclectic galleries.

While it is true that the downtown area has a ways to go before you could consider it vibrant and welcoming, it would be equally wrong to conclude that it only consists of one street.

The last Vegas casino I stayed at was THE glass monolith (Aria.). I liked it, and would stay there again.

However, I would agree that it doesn't enhance the experience on the strip, the way many of the other big properties do.

Did all of this happen this past Friday?

Joe Downtown: Police crackdown on Fremont East after First Friday raises questions - Las Vegas Sun News

Two bars were closed for 24 hours, dozens were arrested, some for outstanding
felony warrants, and several more were cited for underage drinking as about two
dozen police, some on horseback, sifted through a massive crowd on Fremont East
Friday night.

There have been posts in other threads about how people were saying downtown was getting out of control. I guess the cops felt the need to impose some control.

I fail to see the issue(other that. The excessively long 24 hour bar closures).

The comments other than those for the 24 hour issue just show how ignorant and obstinate people can be. Lol at having the right to stand in one spot on a sidewalk when police are actively attempting to discourage that.

There's no right to drink under 21. A lot of that was going on, and causing secondary problems.

I honestly had no idea it was illegal to have an open container on E. Fremont.. I also didn't know I couldn't get a beer from the ABC under the canopy and drink it while walking up FSE. I've done it numerous times and never had a problem, but now I know. I never knew the differentiation between opening a sealed beverage and buying one already open. The things you learn...
