Spirit Adding Las Vegas Flights « CBS Las Vegas

This airline will nickle and dime you to death. But if you don't need to check luggage (or even a carry-on), this is likely the least expensive way to get to PA/MD. Service begins in April. If they follow their traditional roll-out, for the first couple weeks, Spirit will practically GIVE these flights away on their website. (The usual is $39, one-way.) Even a business-class ticket will probably cost less than $100.

EDIT -- Just checked LAS to BWI, $178 round trip, tax included. But then the usual nickle and diming for bags.

Just like RyanAir in Europe. I can dig it.

Good stuff.

We flew Boston to Atlantic city for $7 last year on Spirit. We spent as much on gas to get to the airport as we did for the flight. But yes, they will charge you for things like carry ons, checked baggage, and if you want to sit next to the person you're flying with. It's great for a quick weekend away, though, although it is kind of like flying on a bus.

Morimoto in Philadelphia is one of the best restaurants in the world. That's reason enough.

We once saved a lot and were able to get much more favorable flights on a trip to DC by flying into BWI and shuttling to DC. We rode the MARC train to BWI on the way back out for a change of pace instead of using a van shuttle as we did on the way in.

I like Philadelphia. I've been there many times, and always enjoyed it. It's a little too cold in the winter, but still, a fun place to visit.
