Anyone been to one? I'm sure they have em out here...since the show is popular I thought it might be interesting to go sometime.

I went to the one on MLK Blvd for the NDOT. The NDOT purchased the two storage facilities for the HWY 15 expansion project. Notice was given to vacate for several weeks and there were about 42 units that were not cleared out. Most of them were all garbage but there were a few that had some good stuff. I didn't get one because of the time restriction on clearing the unit. Only Saturday until 4:00 and then Monday from 9 - 4.

But the auction was conducted just like the TV shows. The unit was opened and you could only walk past and view the contents. No walking in or touching anything.

I found the auction by going to auctionzip.

I have a friend who did this back in the 90's for several years long before it became popularized by TV. He did OK but, it was a hell of a lot of work. He had both a store front and sold on Ebay. He said he mostly ended up with clothes and old furniture. Occasionally old records of varying degree of value, things like that. Mostly he ended up with junk he tried to sell for cheap. A lot of it ended up going to the salvation army or the dump as the holding costs were terrible.

Over 5 years his biggest hit was a remote control plane that he sold for a couple grand.

Last summer I stopped by the local corner store off Lake East Drive here in the Lakes and the lady at the counter mentioned the store was packed all day as they were filming at "All Storage At The Lakes" across the street.

What they show you on TV is only the best of the best they do not show you all of the real junk that you have to deal with just like Pawn Stars they do not get great stuff everyday and before the show they also peddled lots of junk. People do not realize how much time is spent doing this stuff and the cost associated to it sure once in a while you hit a good item but that can be few and far in between. The other thing is some collectables and etc markets change real quick so if you move the stuff or do not move it you stand a chance on not even getting your money back or tying up you money for a long time. So lots of travel involved in this and you have to have your own storage and vehicles to move the stuff that is a lot of overhead $$$. It always looks better on TV than it really is
