That picture is awesome. ^

I haven't seen any in my area in the southwest, but while I was in centennial hills today, they were everywhere. Like, five or so every couple feet.

I read they're migrating NW. First wave this week and a second wave coming next week or the next few weeks. They said they should be gone in a few weeks. I'll be there during the second wave house hunting in the North. Wonder if I'll see them?

Can’t Nellis equip some F22s with pest control spray and bomb the Valley with it?! My god it looks like there are billions of these disgusting things. Unleash Agent Grasshopper!

Lol

Been following the Nevada naturalist pages to learn about the native plants and wildlife.

On the bright side their dead bodies are good nutrients for the soil and they expect more wild flowers to bloom in the desert from this in the future. They say compost those grasshoppers if you can.

Are these Grasshoppers a yearly thing in LV, like love bugs here in Florida?

It's all over TV, even showing up on radar. I wonder if the swarms of these bugs, impact aircraft like birds do?

Not annual but seasonal every several years. Last time was 2013 based on this thread. They are big this year due to the extra rains the area saw in Spring. They also make good scorpion food so they said we may see a surge in that population as well.

There was something similar in Idaho a few years back with the Mormon crickets invasion in the high desert which is also part of the Great Basin area. There were so many people were cautioned to drive slowly because crushing them caused the roads to be slick.
