My wife and I are from SoCal and contemplating a move to Las Vegas. I thought about this back in 09 and now am newly married. I am in Real Estate (established in CA) my wife has a job opportunity at AAA in Vegas. My wife's parents live in Vegas, but not sure if it's the right move.

Just as long as you can handle the heat, might as well do it.

Wife makes decisions.... Start packing. One thing if your going to stay with RE in Vegas it would be a good idea to do some real research before coming.. Especially if your already established....

Can I ask why you say it's right. How are the schools? Do you have kids in the system?

I don't understand what you mean by "Real Research"? I doubt the market is as hard there as it is here.

I love these questions. This is like someone asking people on here should I get married to someone in particular. Come on, get real.

Ask some real questions and you'll get the answers you need to help make an informed decision. But saying you need total strangers to help you make the decision is crazy don't you think?

Any supporting reasons why it would be something we should do? All I hear from people is how bad the education system is, the graduation rates, etc. My wife wants kids soon, and CA (at least the part we live in) has great schools, and sense of community.

The reason I am asking the questions is hopefully to hear about schools from people who have kids in the school system. Is the education system as bad as everyone says? I don't know what it's like to live in Vegas and am looking for some input on quality of life, maybe an experience from a CA transplant. We have friends/family there and mixed feelings all around.

As for the real estate market. I now that there are 3k homes approx. on the market for sale, I know that investors are snatching them up as quick as they can and turning them into rentals, I know that it is one of the worst hit markets in the nation, I know that there are 40-50k empty vacant homes within the metro area.

As far as jobs, and education this is what we hear, and what we have noticed: Decent jobs are hard to find (even with a Degree) my wife looked for a while and finally got one. Education we hear is near the bottom of the barrel, but only online, nothing from residents as people we know there don't have kids or are retired. The area to me seems like there are a ton of homes, and more popping up but no infrastructure to the communities to sustain the neighborhoods at this time. With most of the jobs appearing to be entertainment/service jobs what is the outlook of vegas over the next 5-10 years.

Taxes are lower than CA, but if schools are bad and private schools are where it's at with a 12k annual cost it hardly seems worth it to move there.
