In today's paper, the Las Vegas Review Journal spoke out against the tax increase for more cops, urging voters to tell the county commissioners to preserve police positions through leaner, more efficient government - not the struggling public's dime.

Police bargaining groups want pay raises. Our Sheriff supports reinstating 4% "merit" pay raises and .05% longevity pay raises within the department.

It's a huge perception problem for commissioners to support higher taxes on the masses, who are not seeing wage growth, to pay for raises for police who are already collecting high salaries.

I hope not and I refuse to pay more in taxes. The last time I needed a cop wherein they could have generated revenue by issuing a citation to another party, they refuse to show up for assistance. Hell no I don't want to pay more taxes.

Word.

Metro officers were easily outnumbered during the EDC. 400 cops for an estimated 300k+ partiers.

Simple things they make you go down to a precinct to file a report on your own. Most non violent crimes, petty theft, minor disputes and almost all Internet crimes.

You have no clue of what transpired and I have been to the precinct as well, thank you!

The post wasn't really directed towards you in that way. I think you took offense?

Anyway, back to the thread...Just shows that certain crimes in this town are not worth an officer coming out. That's coming straight from the horses mouth. I have officers that live in my neighborhood and I coach kids that have parents in law enforcement. The department is stretched thin, very thin.

The consensus I gathered from speaking with officers over the years is that people are using 911 way too much when they should be using 311 instead. Not every event is an emergency.

We had some moron at my last gig call 911 on the courtesy phone because someone stole her cell phone from the waiting room.

When I've walked my ferret around Town Square, early mornings between 2am-4am, when most of the bar patrons have left, there's usually 2 police cars over there with officers, one nite there were 3 police cars, with Town Square security guards and their roving car patrols, I asked a Town Square security guard one night: Why all the police here at this hour?

His response: Just in case!

You mean to tell me the security contingent at Town Square isn't enough!!!

More cops, more police officers at Town Square every night?

And how many do we employ on the Strip at any given night? The casino's can't patrol the Strip themselves without burdening the taxpayers?

No offense taken, like I said, you don't know what happened. At least you reply to my post here out in the open unlike others who will send a pvt message or a rep but then again, that could be you too. This is a public forum and people will not always agree with what is being posted here and that is fine with me.

I get those same anonymous comments. Especially from those that don't agree with me. Probably half my rep points, nothing new. Everyone gets them.
