In watching the news they always mention "metro"
Jurisdiction. So there is highway patrol, metro (Las Vegas
Police), north LV metro & who for unincorporated?
Sherif ?
Just wondering - thanks.

Metro was created by combining the Las Vegas Police Dept with the Clark Co Sheriff's Office. It serves and protects the city of Las Vegas and unincorporated areas of Clark Co. As such, it's the largest law enforcement agency in Nevada.

In Clark County, Metro does not cover Henderson, North Las Vegas, Boulder City and Mesquite.

Thanks for the clarification. I was coming back to the NW from henderson the other nt & saw a metro K-9 unit. I thought henderson wasn't metro but maybe they needed a K-9 unit.

Metro shares several specialized police services with North Las Vegas and Henderson, but truth be told Metro can operate any where in Clark County if push came to shove.

It's confusing to newbies probably because the Metropolitan Police Department is under the sheriff and they are all deputy sheriffs, and it's still called Metro even if they are operating a 150 miles away from Las Vegas. Plus there is no Las Vegas Police Dept. Remember, this county is over 8,000 square miles ...almost as big as Vermont or New Hampshire.

Wow. I lived in San Bernardino county in CA - I think the largest county in CA. but a lot of it is the national forest.
I've just been noticing things - like 4 traffic cops (motorcycle) hanging around on Durango near westcliff seemingly doing nothing. Then major traffic crashes elsewhere. Maybe it not subject to control but unless they are just generating revenue, I wish they could help make some of these intersections safer. I try not to travel along Charleston, for example as I have seen lots of close calls.

San Bernandino County is the largest county in America. It's larger than some states.

Thanks. I was going to type that but I questioned myself. It has been a long time since I have really paid attention to those type of facts about the "jewel of the inland empire".
Was too busy just trying to secure housing ..... But now I'm in Las Vegas
Funny, I do miss that bankrupt jewel.

Nye County is 18,000 square miles. Most counties in Nevada are larger than many states. I guess that's because we only have 16 of them plus Carson City.

Don't hold me to this in the summer, but I really like NV -- ESP when I run into people from here or who have been here for a long time. Found the same I the long-time locals up in Reno. Was going to relocate there about 10 years ago so spent time up there. They do not speak highly of Las Vegas, though.
