I was just curious as to what peoples opinions were between the two major dish companies. I am a new home buyer and dont want to make a bad decision and be locked into a contract. Any replies would be appreciated.

I had cable when I lived in Vegas (no huge sports fans in our house). But now that I'm in a rural part of Florida without cable, we have Dish and HATE IT! We didn't get DirecTV because we didn't want to lock in for a year in case cable became available in our area...well, 18 months later, we're still waiting for cable.

The lineup on Dish stinks (at least in our market), unless you go with one of the most expensive expanded packages. For example, you get Fox News on the cheapest plan, but not the next one.

I don't live in Vegas yet, but I have DishNetwork, and my girlfriend has DirectTV. My dad has digital cable.

Cable is terrible. Do not, whatever you do, get cable. In my experience with both cable always had worse reception, and the channel lineup isn't much different. I'm much happier with sattelite.

As far as DirectTV or DishNetwork, I don't really see much difference between the two. My girlfriend and I will probably have DirectTV because she likes it more, but from my personal experience, they're both about the same.

Same here. Had cable for years, didn't really have a problem with them. I switched because of the MLB package. Cox said that they we're not going to have it, so I switched, then they got it. Go figure. I'm really happy with DirecTV, I haven't had any problems (knocking on wood). Being a Yankee fan its great to be able to see them on the YES Network. Like Hawaii said, the HD channels are Awesome!!!

I have dish network and I get a ton of HD also. Plus All my locals are Via AIR which actually gets better reception than compressed digital satellite signals. HD via AIR looks 50% better IMHO.

The big advantage with Directv is the NFL season ticket. They are the only one who offer it. If that means nothing to you, then I don't think they're any better than Dish.

Cable offers great bundling deals with regard to phone/internet/tv. I've mentioned several times how horrible I think Embarq is, so by having cable you can get your telecom services through cox as well and avoid nasty Embarq.

We have Dish Network and are very satisfied with it. In my opinion, the user interface on it is more intuitive than the controls for Direct TV. The remote control is definitely less complicated.

I love the DVR that Dish Network offers. The remote control has a button that allows you to skip 15 seconds ahead on a recorded program. Usually eight quick clicks will get you past the commercials. The DVR system offered by COX cable required that you visually scan through the commercials. I don’t know about Direct, but I also like the easy to use remote offered by Dish Network.

My Directv DVR remote has a button that skips forward 30 seconds as well as one that goes back 10 seconds. My friend who has a Cox DVR was envious.
