When looking for a doctor, there cannot be only three doctors that deal with type 1 diabetes. You need to search for a doctor that does internal medicine. My husband is type 1 and a doctor that deals with internal medicine deals with diabetics. A quick internet search shows that there are numerous practices that fit this description in the Vegas area.

I also voted "No" despite the misleading/biased wording.

I'm a Libertarian. It shouldn't be up to the government in my view.

yeah....the survey questions have a distinct bias to them. i'm choosing not to respond to the survey (i don't like being "led" to the desired answer), but i fall in the 'no' camp as well, for the reasons stated by previous posters.

i hope that the OP can use the references provided by other posters to find the appropriate MD. best of luck.

WOW!! I understand OP is asking for help and I thought the two were good responses. Direct but good. Then she flew off the handle.

Lucky Sheriff didn't take the time to post, she'd probably be MOVING!!

I don't know why you were told there are no peds endo docs here, Dr. Alan Rice is one, works with the Univ of Nev School of Medicine. Dr. Tanner used to be the other one, he retired, but I think his Nurse Practitioner, Cathy Flynn, is still practicing, and collaborating with another physician. Try to see Cathy, she is outstanding and takes excellent care of her patients. She works out of the UMC Lied clinic - call 383-2000 and ask for the pediatric outpatient clinic. As for the person who suggested an adult internal medicine MD, they will not see pediatric patients, and managing type 1 is different than type 2.

Default ?

first of all, thank you to the kind people that understood and posted a reply that was helpful. That is all I was looking for was help, not answers like change your diet or go to a different doctor. Sorry, but that is not the point nor the answer I was looking for. If you are not familiar with TYPE 1 it is not the same as type 2. Changing the diet is NOT the way for type 1. And dairy offers alot of protein without Carbs. Why would I ever take that way? And for a child, who needs that... Seriously, thank you for trying to help, but if you do not know the answer, don't give your opinion. I am not looking for free medical advice, but a resolution regarding doctors in Las Vegas. They are vanishing because of malpractice insurance rates. To those that can offer information regarding this, thank you so much.

For those of you that didn't understand in the original post, when my 9 year old daughter was admitted to ST. Rose Hospital, they said,

Quote:
There are currently no pediatric endocrinologist in Las Vegas area.

They did speak very clearly, and I fully understood every word that was said.

Endocrinologists treat diabetes among other diseases because it's caused by problems with insulin, a hormone secreted by the endocrine glands. And treating children with diabetes is very different from treating adults.

I have contacted Valley Hospital Diabetic Dept. and they are not able to give me ANY PEDS doctors names in LV, including the San Diego doctor listed in the article, Asheesh Dewan. I was not aware Dr. Alan Rice was still seeing patients. I was informed by St. Rose hospital that he was not seeing any patients. I am still trying to get in touch with his office at this time. Thank you for linking the article.

We did go to Dr. Flynn's office and I understand that she is a Nurse Praticiner but even then, we did not get to see her. Daughter was addmitted to hospital by a doctor in ER. She was released by a Nurse, that never once seen the patient, talked to the child..and never told me that she was not even a doctor until we got to the office for a visit following her medical release from hospital. So, I am sure you can understand my concerns there.

so... once again, I am still trying to find Asheesh Dewan (waiting for Valley Hospital to get back to me), checking into Dr. Alan Rice, and wondering who has a hard time understanding the reason and logic and says Doctors are "readily available" in Las Vegas.

Prove it.. because it appears I am coming up with dead ends.

a bit harsh? some of the people you just insulted were trying to be helpful. you posted in a public forum....you should expect to get peoples opinions.

You need to do more research before you let some doctor tell you dairy is healthy for your kids. There have been numerous studies done on dairy as the link to childhood diabetes, but hey, learn the hard way.
I DO know what I'm talking about, so I will continue to give advice if it helps save someone from something worse later on. But you don't want a solution.
