I'm building a pool and was wondering which stone coping is best. I really want to do a brown flagstone but I'm worried that it will flake off. I've seen some use a quartzite flag stone, but those tend to be more of a greenish/gray color. This is a salt water pool and I'm planning on sealing it with a dupont sealer specifically for stone around salt water. Stone world over near Farm and Durango has a nice (appears to be somewhat dense) flagstone called fossil creek that they say is sold quite frequently for pool projects. I'm still a little skeptical. Anyone here have any experience with flagstone around their pool that has held up over time?

Thanks for the reply, I'm actually looking for more of a natural stone coping vs precast or poured concrete. Kind of going for the "lagoon" look.

Are you going to do salt water? I recommend doing any epoxy clear coated side walls with UV prohibitors.

I see... I thought you were speaking from a purely skateboarding perspective.

I have flagstone and really like it. While it does flake it's at a minimum and not an issue. If you seal the stone that will reduce flaking to near zero.

All the flagstone I've seen really chips after a while. I think its a bad idea unless you seal it and keep it up.
