New brass anti- siphon valves are about $80. You can rebuild them with kits on Amazon or plumbing supply shop. I rebuilt the same valve twice. I now have multiple layers of insulation and for last two years, no freeze damage.

I know that in climates with sustained freezing weather homeowners typically have a service that blows out the lines with compressed air prior to winter. I've never seen that done. Does the system need to be plumbed to allow this? That is, could this be done here in Las Vegas (even though it is overkill) so the anti-siphon valve does not have water in it during the winter?

The small connectors on the side of the valve assembly are put there to connect the air lines for winterizing. I would imagine someone has posted a YouTube video on how to do it.

I have a fourteen zone system. The anti-siphon valve is about 20 years old and still intact. It is covered with two layers of insulation and is ignored otherwise. On the 14 zones I have lost 2 valves in the last 16 years.

This installation is on a well and has pressure variations from about 60 psi to 20psi. One thing it does have is a particulate filter on the input to the irrigation system. It generally runs around 30 psi when operating. It has a second filter on the drip system that feeds the patio plants. That one has to be cleaned every quarter.

We replace a couple of sprinklers every month. Mostly just the head but sometimes the bearing on the pop up tube is worn out. We buy the tops for the pop ups on the internet in quantity.

We get a leak periodically generally in the zone tubes. we replace the section.
