I noticed when I went to San Diego this summer that gas prices are about only 5¢ to 10¢ higher than in Vegas, that's all.

Its Arizona where gas prices were real cheap, I mean 40¢-50¢ cheaper than Vegas and San Diego. Yuma, Bullhead City, Oh I sure filled up!

It's possible the larger gap has something to do with winter fuel formulations, and reduced supply of CA-spec winter gasoline (gap could be smaller in summer compared to winter).

Chevron - 875 Blossom Hill Rd - San Jose - South, CA - San Jose Gas Prices

Chevron - 9991 W Charleston Blvd - Las Vegas - NW, NV - San Jose Gas Prices
The new Clark County fuel tax kicked in on 1 Jan 2014. I think this is partly the reason gas prices have narrowed between CA and Clark County. Most motorists in Las Vegas don't notice the difference. Before, we would almost match the national average now we have been consistently higher than national average.

A lot of cars in Asia use CNG already as alternatives to gas or diesel. There is a very good car on the market called the Honda Civic that uses CNG (GX) model. This is old news since it is more popular in CA but its still didn't really catch on because of the limited filling stations. I know someone who has a Civic GX in CA and he has his own filling station at home using his home's gas supply. Just plug in at night and in the morning you will have a full tank. Gets about 250 miles per fill and is cheaper than gasoline. Also oil changes are less frequent because CNG burns so clean there is almost no contaminants that will get into the motor oil.

All the cabs where I work are propane. A ford escape will get roughly 225-250 miles on a full fill up.

I might be wrong, but propane and CNG are different fuels?

Yes, they are different. Basically, cng is cleaner but propane has more energy potential.

As I understand, CNG is more cost effective but it is has less BTU rating than propane. I noticed RTA buses have the tanks on the roof and says CNG powered. I also see cabs with a triangle and CNG in the middle. I guess i've never noticed one that says propane. When I worked in a large warehouse, some forklifts were using propane.

Maybe it has somehting to do with the state gasoline tax per gallon. I think CA and NV are one of the highest ??
