With the chance of snow in the valley NY Eve how do you think the roads will be? Would the roadbed still be warm enough that the roads will just be wet? Or can I expect super slick roads?

I have never been in snow since I moved here in 2011 and not sure what to expect. I assume the city doesn't treat the roads with anything (salt or deicer).

I have to be down town from far NLV via Martin Luther King Blvd. on Thursday at 6 am. I know you can't predict the future, but any input would be appreciated. Thanks!

I was in Palm Beach a long time ago when it snowed 1" (as rare as what Vegas is about to endure). I'm from Boston and used to snow, and what I saw was a side show. $5 plastic shovels come out of every hardware store and they all got scooped up. Driving was a joke as no one knew how to drive in snow. 3" does make for slippery conditions, but in Vegas, might as well be solid ice, as I can picture spin outs everywhere. If I was there, I'd stay off the road that day not trusting any other driver, but if you can't, drive with EXTREME caution looking around you at all times for someone to skid right through an intersection at you..

If you're not familiar with snow, then go ahead and drive your car right into the ditch so it's not in my way. People here crash way too often when the roads are clear. It's sure to be chaos when snow hits.

I live in Henderson, which typically doesn't get much snow even when other parts of the valley do. I recall a few years back (2010?) we got a good amount of snow and it was really havoc on the roads. I saw lots of cars on the side of the road, flipped around, a couple in ditches.

I remember there was some issue with the entrance to Anthem and people were sliding down the road.

I recall that the city (or county?) doesn't really have any snow removal equipment so that complicated the problem.

I drove heavy duty snow for many years.

I recommend not driving in Vegas if there is any snow on the road. You may know what you are doing but the majority do not. So you are the hitee rather than the hitter.

If you have to go stick to clear streets or seldom used back street. Clear streets are likely wet not snowy and, if you know how, it is actually easy to drive safely on fresh snow as long as no one runs into you.

On this topic, I'll defer to the one who calls himself "Yellowsnow."

I just punched 89044 (Anthem / Mediera Canyon) into weather.com and it pretty much says snow all day on the 31st.

I agree. They are bad enough when it rains.
