It sucked because the heater was broken, but that thing would not let go of the road. It was so good, for whatever reason, that I was able to drive how I normally drive, on a sheet of ice. Like an angry rally driver.
This was in NC. It would be warmer, like 35-40, in the day time, but as soon as it started getting dark, it would drop into the teens. It had rained for a couple days and it froze over night. Thawed out over the course of the day, and refroze with more rain on top. Walking was a challenge, but that damn van held the road like an F1 car.
Sorry EA but you are an amateur. In Rochester it snowed virtually everyday and snowed hard a couple of times a month. And every other year all hell would break loose and survival became a driving issue. You could literally die in a ditch because no one got to you for 48 hours. Did you ever stand on a snow drift looking down at buses?

One of my favorites was Lake Road. There you had to accelerate down the hills to have enough inertia to coast up the next one. And if you did not make it the only choice was turn around and go back down and try again.

Las Vegas is dangerous because the vast majority of the drivers are not skilled in this art. And, on NYE, some ain't gonna be all there. No way you should volunteer. And be careful if you must go.

Pfft. I have stood on snow piles and looked into second story windows. I grew up in the snow belt of Western PA. I drove in heavy snow before I even had a license.

That is about 6 feet short of looking down on top of a bus.

Western PA is not easy but does not approach north western NY.

However to avoid prolonging this how long is your thing discussion...both have adequate snow.

I love the level of exaggeration here. Las Vegas brings out the best of it. "Where I lived it was snowing 24 hours a day for 4 months" is what someone will eventually say as people from NY, Minnesota and Wisconsin duke it out to claim the title of survivor of the worst ever weather. It starts with it snows a lot and before you know it they lived in a daily 2 foot blizzard. Someone has to call BS on it.

I hope there's no serious snowfall. I really want our visitors to have a safe and happy time. I wish that fluke warm spell we got last week would have manifested itself over this Holiday instead.

OK. Anybody who drives in snow in Las Vegas without strong need is nuts.

But I think we were here 25 messages ago.

The lack of understanding about what kinds of snow certain parts of the country get is even more interesting.
