I was planning on moving to Las Vegas from September - April. But checking the average temps, I am guessing I'll only get about 2 hot months, with some really cold ones.

How bad is the weather in Dec - Feb really? Would one be OK wearing just a suit jacket? Or maybe an overcoat or a leather jacket? Or do you need to dress up like a Canadian?

What's the coldest winter place that you have ever lived?

If you are coming from somewhere cold, the first winter isn't bad at all. It's only once you get used to the warm that the vegas winter becomes brutal. But even then, it's really only if you work outside.

Well, I'm Swedish and spent my first 20-25 years of my life there. Temp was about 10 to 50 degrees for 6-9 months a year, with lots of rain, snow and wind.

But doesn't mean I liked it (far from it).

December through February only requires wearing a light jacket - unless you're a full-time local, in which case, a Winter coat and gloves are in order. It's an easy way to spot the locals v. visitors to Las Vegas.

I'm not sure I'd agree about 2 hot months, unless you're comparing here to sub-Sahara Africa. Yesterday was May 1. It was 99 degrees in Henderson. From here on out, we will most likely have highs between 95 and 115 until mid-September. It is not uncommon to have 90 degree days in November. December/Jan/Feb has average highs in the 50s, but 60s and 70s are not uncommon, either.

I agree with the above posters who recommend coats in the winter. After living in New England off and on for 20 years, I find it funny that 60 degrees can chill me to the bone now. But it does.

Winters here are just brutal. 20 below zero for weeks at a time, 16 foot snow drifts... the entire city just shuts down for 4 months.

I would hardly consider us having a winter at all. I do remember in 2013? We got some polar air or something and it was in the teens.

I worked in some 30 degree days. It was not pleasant at all. Anything below 50 is BS and I hate it.
However, it didn't last terribly long.

Our "winter" is the in season here. Before daybreak, yes the high 30s and 40s feel, well like 30s and 40s. But the daytime temps are outstanding. And they are predominant.

And as stated, acclimation is key/must be considered if not. If you are moving outside in the those "coldest" winter hours, the days still seem relatively balmy after the sun comes up.
