Got a good recipe I want to try...$28.99/lb at Whole Foods however...

Any place more reasonable? Asian market?

Thanks...

Sometimes they will have it at Costco - $17.99/lb or thereabouts. They almost always have it in the SF Bay Area Costcos, but not so often in Las Vegas. Not much demand I'm guessing, which would also explain the much smaller selection of organic items in Las Vegas area Costcos as well.

Halibut the premium fish but for a cheap alternative you might want to try Tilapia..nice thick filet if you can find fresh not frozen

Comparing Halibut to Tilapia is like comparing ground chuck to Kobe Beef. Try using Haddock instead.

Halibut is in season right now, and I also bit the bullet 2 weeks ago and got some at Whole Food in Henderson. Really beautiful, and I don't often say that about the fish counter over there. I'm often underwhelmed and left scratching my head as to why the counter is stuffed all the way in the back of the store in a half lit location....Anyway, back to the point. I picked up 2.23lbs @29.99= $66.88. Ouch, but dinner was lovely that night. I just sent my husband a text to see how much he's paying for halibut right now and where it's coming in from. Might not get an answer for several hours, though.

Yeah. Unfortunately Tilapia tends to look like a large goldfish, and it's mostly farm raised and full of toxins. That's a bummer. Try calling Sprouts and Costco each day to see what's fresh.

How about flash-frozen at Trader Joes? Has anyone checked?

This post is the best example I have ever seen why people should buy local.

I get it that people want what they want. But $30 per pound fish should cook itself and wash the dishes afterward!
