We get so excited over having double digit temps in the high 90s instead of triple digits. Aren't we pathetic?

If the forecasters are right and we have an El Nino you are really in for a surprise. The one in 1997-98 was huge and I was living in CA at the time. It rained for 21 day straight. This one is suppose to be bigger.

Ran is not a proper winter phenomenon.

I was in CA also those years and I remember all the rain we got just soaked Nor Cal and caused major flooding and mudslides. I remember getting stuck in mud in the Santa Cruz mountains and I had to leave my car in the mud because the tow trucks couldn't access the roads. The car ended being totaled by my insurance company. Since we live in a rain shadow, I wonder how much rain we will actually get and how much flooding is going to be?

I remember living in Santa Cruz in '82 when we had the massive flooding. Parts of West Cliff Dr. got washed away. We were up on a hill overlooking the ocean, and there were emergency vehicles with loudspeakers driving the streets telling people to stay inside and offering assistance. I'm assuming we won't see anything like that here.

Here are a few hikes to do. If the El Nino proves to give us some wet weather, some of the waterfall hikes could be really special this winter:

And these guys and gals have been known to be VERY generous with their time and equipment. A couple of Decembers ago, around 15 members hauled their gear out to the Neon Museum, and showed visitors some cool stuff going on in the sky. Some of their telescopes were so big, my girls had to climb the ladders that they provided, to get a look thru the lens. Incredible evening! Plus the bonus, was a chance to walk around the boneyard with hot chocolate on a really chilly night!

Las Vegas Astronomical Society

And a cool site that was recommended to me, for stargazers out there. I haven't tried it yet...
