I will be visiting Las Vegas in April and I'd like to ENJOY this trip. I've been there many times in the past and within an hour of landing at McCarren Airport mu allergies act up to the point of almost being debilitating. I am not certain if it is an allergic reaction to a pollen out there, mold or just the dust.

My head becomes plugged and my nose runs as though I have a head cold.

I normally take Zyrtec at home and that is great for whatever I encounter in the Northeast but doesn't work worth a **** in Las Vegas.

Besides decapitation does anyone have any recommendations?

Munee is pretty well on. Mold is around where there is water though I think mostly an indoor problem in this climate. But in April we have the full set of spring pollens. So talk to your Dr. about anti-histamines and Claritin and such. There will be pollen in April...

My wife and I have fought the allergy problem for many years. I first started sneezing my head off after I had been in Las Vegas for a couple of years in the '60's. I would go through a box of Kleenex in a few days, and I popped antihistamines like candy. Then about ten years ago we were introduced to a local doctor, Dr. Robert Milne, who specializes in treating allergies using homeopathic medicine. He was a godsend. From one of the books he wrote we discovered NAET (Nambudripad Allergy Elimination Technique) Go to: NAET.com.

We thought it sounded like a scam until we got a few treatments. This was in February, 1998. That Spring went down as the worst pollen season on record in Las Vegas. By the time the pollen came out we were amazed that we were no longer affected by it. My wife has asthma and three or four times every Spring we would get up in the middle of the night to rush her to the emergency room. Since beginning NAET we haven't made that trip one time. My nose seldom runs (even though noses run in my family ), and I only take Allegra when I have a cold which is seldom now.

We found that we had hundreds of allergies so we learned to do the treatments on each other. Allergies are the cause of nearly every ailment known to man, and by allergies I don't mean that pollen makes you sneeze. It is much more than that. By the time you are sneezing your immune system has become so overloaded that sneezing is just one symptom.

After a while we discovered another Dr. who was taught by Dr. Nambudripad, Dr. Ellen Cutler. I think she advanced the treatments and made it simpler to do, although NAET is already very easy. She calls her methods Bioset. Go to: Bioset.net.

Even though our progress was obvious, we were tired of treating allergies all the time. We'd get rid of one and another would pop up. So we decided we would go back to a professional that has had a lot of training and see if we were doing something wrong. We were, and in a short time we have almost reached the end of the need for regular treatments. We were treating for one allergy at a time, and found out that we were missing things by not treating several at once. We also learned some new techniques that immediately put us back in control when we feel discombobulated.

I won't put the practitioner's name on here, but if anyone seriously wants help, PM me.

My brother, since moving to Las Vegas (Summerlin) in 2000, has had horrible allergy problems. In fact, he says that his overall health started to deterioate form the minute he arrived. He always blamed it on all the dust being stirred up by all the construction.

This is what happens when humans inhabit an environment that is not made for them. Now, if we [humans] were cold-blooded and had scales like snakes and scopions....humans would adpat very well to that harsh environment.

Human habitation of the Las Vegas Valley goes back thousands of years. Most of the allergy problem deals with imported plants. Desert dust is not normally much of an allergan. Maybe lung cancer...but not a running nose.

Some misconceptions here that cost me a lot of pain and suffering, plus a lot of study and practice to learn, and I'm giving some of it to you for free. First of all you can be allergic to anything under the sun, including the sun itself. I'm from West Virginia and I learned after 40 years in the desert that I WAS allergic to coal (not to mention the hundreds of other things we found, including oxygen of all things). Coal was one of the allergies that I eliminated using the NAET process.

Once you've got that runny nose you have gone way beyond what your body's immune system can handle. People relate a runny nose to allergies to obvious things like pollen and dust; but what they don't know is by the time they get a runny nose that they have other more severe symptoms that they probably don't relate to allergies, let alone to allergies to non-ordinary things; like those vitamins they've been popping for instance, or the protein in that steak they ate three days ago.

Runny nose just means you've been overwhelmed by more allergies than you can imagine, and to things you would never suspect. And a reaction can come several days after exposure so it's hard to trace that pain in your lumbago to your exposure to the neighbor's weed killer last Tuesday. People think a heart attack or cancer is something unrelated to allergies. Not true. Whatever disease you have, it most likely came from allergies that you don't know you have. And the scratch test won't find them so don't bother to run out to see an allergy specialist.

I suggest going to one of those sites that I posted and doing some reading of your own...maybe order a book from Dr. Nambudripad, or the tape from Dr. Cutler. It could save your life. Or, if you are suffering, make an appointment with Dr. Milne. His thing is that most allergies come from food, which leaves out all the billions of other allergens, but it's a good start because most of us are actually allergic to most everything we eat these days. Of course, it is my contention that although you might be allergic to wheat, it is more likely that you are allergic to several of the hundreds of food additives that we consume. You can eat a piece of bread today that has additives that you aren't allergic to and have no reaction. Then tomorrow you can eat bread that has one you are allergic to and somebody says you are allergic to the wheat gluten so you give up bread. But quite probably it wasn't the wheat gluten it was the poison they use to preserve the wheat or the bread.

I hate to see people going through all the suffering I've gone through, so I try to teach them about this. If they won't listen, then I feel sorry for them. They'll just have to go on suffering.

Likely all true Buzz. But there are also any number of people whose distress correlates almost perfiectly with the pollen production of the mulberry or olive tree. They show no systems 9 months of the year. So apparently there problem is reasonably specific. Given a broad and general causal would they not have it year round? Ocham suggests keep things simple. I suggest that would lead me to the first premise that I was bothered by the spring pollen if I had spring problems and few elsewhere.

My thing is a particularly mold present only in the southern US. I don't know its name but I know that as soon as I get near it I will soon have an attack ranging from really bad sinus to asthma requiring medical assistance.

I am very careful about being in Florida for that reason. I can smell it by the way...but by that time it is too late.
