So? NV actually out ranks CA and TX in terms of high school graduates. It is also not 51st in BA degrees.

But so what?

You simply don't compare places with high Hispanic populations to those which don't have it.

If we only include states with Hispanic populations over 10%, then we get a 83% correlation between spending per pupil and % of residents 25-34 with a bachelor's degree.

Light rail/public transportation. Extend the monorail or some type of rail north to Centennial, south to Henderson/Green Valley and west/nw towards summerlin and durango and east towards boulder. That would help cut down on all the pedestrian deaths and general carnage on the roads.

Invest more in education. If a builder wants to build tracts of housing they should be required to build schools as well. Funding the teachers and administrators should come from somewhere. Lottery, marijuana, or (gasp) increased taxes.
--UNLV needs a decent satellite campus somewhere else in the valley. Somewhere north of the 215 near Centennial?

Areas directly surrounding the strip should be gentrified. One block from the strip shouldnt be scary ghettos. It should be housing for hipsters and mom and pop shops and recognizable retail.

Maybe builders should include transport plans? They just build anywhere and tough luck if no one can get there.

That's a problem all over the Southwest. No one renovates. Don't like your house? Why fix it up? Buy a new one ten miles down the road. No road to get there? Wait til enough houses go up and Walmart will pressure the local government to put one in. Your apartment building doesn't have a Starbucks INSIDE it? Who wants to walk across the street? The newest one over in the next neighborhood does.

I wish we would expand the monorail to the airport and downtown(Fremont Street). It still blows me away that Nevada put in this cool monorail that goes no where but up and down the strip. Since it's already there, why not make it useful?

I wonder where all these college graduates will be working? Mid level management jobs are disappearing. Manufacturing is being outsourced to other countries. Little hope of paying back existing student loans. I worked for a major company that employed college graduates at entry level jobs. Except for the rare individual, they didn't last long (everyone seemed to want a management position right out of school) Not that education is a bad thing, but where will they be working to get the "payback" for all the money spent getting that degree? At $15 to $20 an hour how do these people pay back their loans, pay for housing, support a family, live the American dream? Should we college educate just the people who have the aptitude for higher education?
