Village Green residents are flipping out on Nextdoor. After looking at a map, I understand why.

What was the big deal with this anyway? They kept posting signs all over Peccole about that street possibly being closed off. I don't care because it's across the street and I never go that way.

Look at a map. Homestretch was only one of four ways into Village Green. There is one entrance only, on each of Charleston, Hualapai, Sahara, and Town Center. Now one of them is gone. That was a major artery into Village Green, and it just got taken away from them. There isn't even a signal at Sahara and Blue Willow.

I'm not sure why Peccole Ranch was so upset but the Village Green and others west of Hualapai will be land locked with no signalized way to get onto Sahara and go east. It also requires a back track to get there.

I read through that long thread on Nextdoor. Peccole Ranch residents were using Homestretch as a shortcut to get to Town Center Dr and Red Rock Resort. They're angry that it's being taken away from them.

It was also pointed out that a reasonable compromise was offered by Faith Lutheran, but PR was so opposed to it (the words "bullying" and "negative" were used to describe the actions of PR residents) that the only other option was to close Homestretch, so now everyone loses.

Is this Homestretch drive a public road? If so, it seems kind of odd that the government would shut down a public road for a church school? What am I missing with this?

The priorities of our local government?

I'm kind of glad. My granddaughter goes to Faith Lutheran and it was a safety issue.

You are correct. It is a public road. The church is paying nothing for the acre of land +/- worth somewhere around $700k.

This is the main reason I opposed it. Clark County has no business giving away public land to benefit a religious organization. That isn't just an opinion. The state constitution specifically forbids it.

The commissioners approved it without seeing any actual plan. If the church does not replace the road with a park of the same size in the final proposal, I think it will end up in court.
