Looks like the battle over what to build is already heating up. I'd personally LOVE to see a light rail option in this town. More cars on the road are not the answer and neither is a taxi/car only option in and out of McCarran.

A rush job on this traffic plan could back us up for decades - Las Vegas Sun News

First the Monorail to nowhere and now an "elavated expressway"...it's as if they are making these decisions blindfolded.

And in typical Bass Ackwards fashion, Las Vegas hasn't figured out what other intelligent cities have:

Why Would You Have a Highway Run Through a City?

Add that to the insistence that we don't need a better system of education to grow our economy, and we are STILL hugging the road on the wrong side of history. What the heck is WRONG with this place?!

This city is so hopelessly stuck in the 1960's, this doesn't surprise me, or the rest of the country, that we'd build something that other cities are now tearing down! I really hope Clark County Commissioner Larry Brown gets his way on this one, and let the laughter begin from all the cities across the country that are unafraid to embrace the 21st century!

And don't we all know what's always behind any mass transit decisions in Clark County: the mob-like taxi unions, and now joining hands with Lyft and Uber!

Special interests working to protect their interests. What's new? If a light rail from the airport to and up the Strip can really be built for $400m then it's a no brainer to do that. I have my doubts. But totally agree an expressway just leading into a traffic jam is a bad joke. Spending $200m to save a couple of minutes in most conditions is such a waste. The traffic problems now are mostly driven by construction, as if this project is going to bring an improvement for that.

There are already bus routes that run 24/7 from the strip and FSE to the South Strip Transfer Terminal and McCarran. Is it really so hard to ride the bus?

Have you done it? It's going way out of the way first, then waiting for another bus and then waiting as at every stop many people get on and off. Plus waiting at lights adds time as well. This could be done by bus if it's a special dedicated bus. Has its own lane, gets some lights to work with it and most importantly is an airport to Strip bus. If they try to mix it in with the Deuce and it's hordes getting on and off every block forget it. The luggage and disoriented tourists will be put off quickly. If they made the price higher to keep the crowding down and ran the service enough it may work. Since I doubt that ever happens then light rail is the way to go at that projected low price.

Why not just expand the monorail we already have to the airport and Fremont St?

There's no reason they couldn't run a city bus line, that would actually stay off the strip (using the parallel roads behind the strip on either side, that would have stops at each casino port cochere. Give them dedicated bus lanes, and a traffic light preemption system, and you've achieved everything a light rail system would, at a fraction of the price.
