I am looking to purchase a car and thinking whether I should get a convertible or not. Is it too hot to drive a convertible in the summer in Las Vegas? Or will the wind cool you down?

You're better off with that, leave your stuff open, so the thieves can easily take what they want without breaking in lol.

BTW driving in 100 degree's with it open is a great way to get skin cancer.

What if you only drive with the top up in the mornings and the afternoons/nights? Usually I will drive to work at 7 or 8 am and then back at 5 or 6 pm.

This is the only place I'd consider a vert.

I would have a convertible if it was only getting part-time use like on evenings or weekends. I wouldn't have one as a daily driver. I would think you'd get fried driving around Las Vegas in the summer during the day with the top down.

I had a couple of convertibles at one time but these days much prefer a sunroof/moonroof type of setup.

I've driven a convertible as a daily driver without air conditioning in Las Vegas. The wind doesn't cool you down. Even if convertibles weren't designed to minimize the wind striking your face, the wind is still 99 degrees at 9 am.

That said, you rarely have to worry about rain, and most of the year is just fine for driving with the top down. That's more than can be said for most places.

Or baked like in a convection oven.

I have a Beetle convertible and it's wonderful in the desert. The top is triple insulated so the interior of my car stays much cooler. Other than the very hottest days of summer, top down driving is wonderful, especially in early spring or late fall. There's nothing like touring the scenic areas with the top down...Or even driving the strip at night.

I'll never drive a hard top car again.

I like hardtop convertibles. With the top up, you wouldn't even know most of them are convertibles (BMW 4 series, Lexus IS, Mercedes-Benz SL, etc). Fabric tops are going to let you know they're convertibles even when the top is up.

My wife's Lexus IS is a lot of fun to drive in Las Vegas. We only put the top down after the sun has gone down in the summer though. If the weather is mild and we're driving with the top-down during the day, we wear hats and a lot of sunscreen, and don't do it that often. Way too much UV exposure to be doing that every day.
