I am curious what the feelings are on DACA recipients in Las Vegas and Henderson. Are people in these cities furious about the people brought over when they were children, neutral or hoping they give them a chance.

It is interesting. Las Vegas does not consider it an issue. And does not appear to ever have.

Perhaps annoying to have to educate those who are not initial English speakers. But actually worse to deal with those who cannot give their children minimal support.

Phoenix wants to deport them all. Las Vegas prefers to employ them as they mature. I expect LV wins this discussion.

These are kids with 100% spotless criminal records and an average age of 6 years old when brought over. Avg recipient is 26 now. They love the US and the US is the only country they know.

They pay taxes, they pay for the working visa every two years of $500, and unfortunately they trusted the govt and gave up their info so if Trump decides they are undocumented again, they know exactly where to locate them. Cant imagine that kind of stress of families being torn apart.

Don't Blame Trump. It is an illegal executive order at least he is giving congress 6 months to fix it. If they don't it will not be his fault.

actually Obama caused this in June 2012 by giving the illegals social security numbers etc...

This thread will get off topic and non LV specific fast I bet. So here's my take before it gets moved or removed. I just think that people should come here legally, if they don't follow the procedures, then they should be forced to follow them. I have to get a passport stamp and visas' when I travel to other countries...we should also enforce it. I'd expect to get thrown out of another country if they don't have a record of me entering.

Lots of worry in the teachers lounge today, since a significant amount of our students were protected by DACA. Numbers may go down which would result in jobs being cut. This only adds to the current budget issues (CCSD is 50 million over budget, currently under a hiring freeze, and teachers weren't given salary step advancement this year).

I was under the impression that the open borders was for other EU contries only. However, I've never traveled to Europe so I could be wrong.

I find myself riding the fence on this one.

On one hand, we all know that 95% of the people coming across the border are only looking for jobs and the betterment of their families, so we should welcome them. On the other hand, they are illegal and are flaunting the laws of this country, so they should be deported just as US citizens would be if they went to Central America without the proper papers.

Many of my friends and acquaintances in Las Vegas are Hispanic. I'm sure that some, if not many, of them are illegal. We pretty much do the "don't ask, don't tell".

Overall, I think that the DACA people are not responsible for coming here illegally, that was their parents' choice, so they shouldn't be penalized for it. And, though I think that, I also feel that if by age 26, they are resistant to doing the right thing to become citizens, then they should accept the consequences. That said, they should have the option to become citizens. I believe that there was talk of the road to citizenship would include serving in the armed forces, which I whole-hearted agree with, and attending college, which I feel should be contingent upon graduating and not just attending.
