The new NEAP results are out as the natlions report card.

One new change is that CCSD has joined the set of large school systems reported.

The news is not terrible. It turns out that Las Vegas is actually in the middle of the pack of large school systems. The scores appear just a bit below the big system average scores. And there are roughly a dozen large systems worse than CCSD.

Here is where to see the data...

https://www.nationsreportcard.gov/ndecore/xplore/NDE

What all this says is not that CCSD is wonderful...but that it is not awful.

The charge made is that it is the worst. That is wrong.

It is roughly the average. For big schools systems.

That is actually pretty good. it spends less than the average money.

I thought I heard on NPR last week that CCSD is 4th largest in the nation and one of the lowest ranked. Apparently that info is not correct. Glad CCSD is improving.

Too, too funny. THE NEAP reports? If you weren't Canadian, I'd think you are a product if our local education system. Too funny.

So I inverted a couple of characters. Happens. I am not Canadian showing you are not as smart as you think you are.

For the rest of us it should have been NAEP.

Being the best in America is not that good. Being in the middle is damn sure not something to write home about. We just teach to the test and the tests are useless. Very little of what we're teaching our kids is useful. It's like teaching your dog how to drive. Sure you can do it, but it's completely useless because dogs aren't allowed to drive anywhere but your own closed course. It doesn't benefit the dog, you, or society. Who cares if we're churning out the best button pushers money can buy. Without critical thinking and life skills we're all doomed as a species.

Being in the middle is much better than being the worst in the nation.

And the point is a kid going to the better schools here will do all right.

Very bright kids will almost always be OK. And the kids capable of college level work will be able to get the enabling basic education in Las Vegas.

I do not approve in any way of the funding in CCSD or in fact anywhere in the Southwestern US. Ought to come up to at least US averages.

On the other side you don't need to move out of Clark County if you have K-12 children. You should however consider the schools when deciding where to live.

I WILL NOT be satisfied until EVERY school district is above average.
