Other recent articles that talk about potential release of BLM and other lands and the impact to the ecosystem.

Way back in the early 90s when I first moved into the area, that stretch of land to Jean has always been mentioned as the eventual addition to the development path. Until they built the Beltway it actually made more sense to be just off I-15 because I lived in Green Valley back then and it seemed like it took forever to get there on city streets. When Green Valley Ranch and Anthem were built it was always mentioned how they would eventually go over the hills there and on the road to Jean. Add in the plans for Ivanpah airport which have been around seemingly forever and its just hard to believe this is still in doubt.

Don't know if they should really rush to build up in the mountains, but with climate change and the urban island effect relentlessly pushing up temperatures, I think the demand for higher elevation living is pretty much inevitable and will become a big thing in the next decade.

Difficult to get an exact map of what they have in mind to release for development. Here's a start though.

Comprehensive Plan

They need to come up with a plan to supply enough water before they can talk about expansion.

There seems to be more concern of the Tortoises than water issues.

So if growth cant or should not go on forever, either you force people to live on top of each other or you push measures to insure the population stops growing. This will be a fun battle to watch.

Las Vegas uses far under its current allotment of water from the Colorado as it is. As long as they keep exterior water use down by mandating xeriscaping, it won't be an issue.
