Merry Lee Gather - I will be starting a job in NW Las Vegas in mid-October. I've never been there. I plan to rent an AirBnB while I look for a place to rent.

Can you please ask lvmensch to contact me to set me up an account so I can find a rental via the mls matrix you mentioned.

Thank you!

That sounds like it. It lets you heart the ones you like and remove the ones you don't. And you can edit your preferences and ways to view listings.

Sure. I can send him a msg but not sure when he'll be in touch since it sounds like he's away this summer.

Yes. This will be the third time it's happened over my career. It's not an easy thing especially if I don't know anyone, however attitude is everything. I'm looking forward to seeing what Vegas is all about. The Vegas outside of the strip. It will be an adventure.

Merry Lee Gather - Thanks for sending him the email.

Many builders in that particular village actually have their models becoming available at the end of this year. The ones I'm specifically looking at will be available before 2021. I really like that area a lot. A lot of perks. What's your budget? Toll brothers are doing larger lots and properties and also some smaller townhomes I believe.

It happens all the time. People get promotions. People serve in the military. People get better job offers.

That conversation is evolving and depends on what we pre-qualify here for first. In Portland we looked in the 500 - 600k range homes. They were all 1950 - 1960 mid century modern and ranch three bedroom homes that needed renovations over time.

Here we can get brand new and modern style for the same price with the modern homes in Henderson being a style we like in a better price range for us. At first he said he could commute from Henderson but now he says he likes being close to work.

We looked at Lenner homes in Skye Canyon for 400-500k and Granite Heights for 800K - 1.2M in Summerlin and drove by some 500k modern homes in Henderson just to get an idea what we get for the money. After that he says he wants what we have now and to travel. We're in a 350K house.

We know it will be two years before we can buy a house. We have to pay off credit cards and student loans, which will take less than a year, and then save 20% for a down payment. That's why we like Red Point in Summerlin as the Toll Brothers homes start at around 600K and will be ready in 2 years.

We also have one other good close friend looking to move there too who also works at the VA but different department. So we could be neighbors!

Thanks for asking! He was a great help when we needed to move back here and find housing. Good luck on your move and new job.

Welcome to greater Las Vegas. Have you lived in the desert before? If not, just a word of advice: water. Don't go anywhere without a bottle of water in your hand. Drink a lot. If you're not peeing, you're not drinking enough water.

When you look for a permanent residence, bring a compass with you (or download a compass app to your smartphone). Avoid any residence with significant west-facing windows. North facing are fine, but avoid west. Some south is OK, some east is OK, but minimize west facing. Next summer you'll be glad.

Thanks for the welcome. I lived in Albuquerque, NM for almost 3yrs. Thanks for the advice regarding which direction orientation would be best for the house I rent. I do have a compass app on my phone and will use it while looking at houses.
