I would love for this to be a permanent change and for Park MGM to remain at its same price point rather than try to become more "high end" due to this change. I don't know a single person my age (30) who smokes and I think there is definitely a market for people who don't want to sit on a smoky casino floor next to the 85 year olds swapping oxygen puffs with cigarette puffs.
There were other issues with Revel, but smoking ban definitely hurt. What hurt them though is that they were a single property, they couldn't direct VIPs to other casinos and still capture their revenues. If you are a smoker and liked Park as your place, easy to get a host to switch you to a smoking casino in the future. I can envision a future where the casino floor in Park is smaller, freeing up space to add other amenities that appeal to a different crowd. In the modern Vegas it doesn't have to be about gambling revenues, but in Atlantic City it kind of has to be.

I personally don't think that smoke free works in Vegas casinos, but they don't have much to loose by doing a trial run at the Park. Time will tell if this actually works, the over/under for number of smoke free days is 90. I think it will be revised by new yeas day.

I think smoking and gambling goes together so I'm betting it won't last. I hate the smell of smoke so I like the idea personally.

What, do you think thousands of potential customers are going to tell them please reinstate smoking? I think odds are much higher you see another casino go smoke free than Park go back to smoking. Keep hearing about how it didn't work before, but Silver City was last to try it in 1991 and it was a small casino on the Strip without hotel rooms that mostly catered to locals. Back then the casino was everything for profits, more so when you had no hotel and about double the population were smokers compared to today. Today casinos make most of their money from everything but the casino. I think it's a quite sound strategy and MGM never does anything without analyzing it fifteen different ways first.

Being a smoker myself, it makes no difference to me, as I'll only stay in a hotel with balconies, and if it is banned on balconies, like the Signature Towers at MGM. there's always Motel 6's with aisle balconies. There's one on Tropicana not too far from the Strip.

It's a sound strategy because they have little to loose. Year-to-year revenue number are skewed due to Covid so the overall success of the new policy will be difficult to gauge. This seems like the throw it up against the wall and see if it sticks kind of a move.

From my experiences at the Park they tend to get a lot of transient customers in the bar/restaurants due to the Park Theater and T-Mobile. Obviously those venues are currently closed, but I wonder if the smoking policy will impact that type of customer.

The lack of cigarette smoke will help also.

And you anti smokers base your views on what ? That the casinos care or give a rats butt about you ?

They’ve gone far enough with providing non smoking gaming areas for you, most if not all the restaurants are non smoking now and that’s not good enough. What the hell is wrong with you, it’s been tried, FAIL. Same with the bars...FAIL.

Vegas is built on excess, always has been, anything you want.....CASH talks. That’s all that matters to a Casino, bottom line. End of story.

You all should pool your money, invest and build a completely smoke free casino. Watch how fast you loose your investments into what YOU think is such a great idea. It’s almost hilarious to read, while your at it, limit everyone to one drink, take responsibility for DUI, limit the buffet line to one trip with no more that one 2 ounce serving of 5 items to help cure fat people and diabetes. Limit table games And slots to $50 per visit to help degenerate gambling.

See where this is going. Something a mental disorder........

It’s pretty sad that I’m betting none of you where here during the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, 90’s when Vegas was an awesome place ! The progressive need to control everything attitude just stinks and will destroy our state.

It’s really sad to live it, see it and where we are headed.
