Would just need to be aired out.

Mold won't be a problem, the house will be extremely dry since it hasn't been lived in. You will need a humidifier.

What type of flooring do you have?
Should've ended the thread right there and then.

You all are funny! Seriously had me scared....and for nothing! Ha! I let my cat loose just to make sure nothing is under the beds or in closets. But now I have one issue. One of my rolling shutters is stuck in the down position. It is one that is upstairs and not hard wired like the others. It is on a battery, which I just bought and replaced. But still doesn't work. I called the shutter company and they want nearly $500 for service call and to possibly replace switch. Was wondering if there is anyone on this thread that could do it for less. I'm just tired of being gouged by everyone these days. It's been a rough couple of years...any electricians or a handyman that can do a quick side job?

Yes, the voice of reason! But that wouldn't have been fun

Wow, what a rip off! Bang on it all over to see if it's stuck. Obviously not hard enough to do damage, but it might just need a few whacks to loosen up something that's sticking. Try to raise it manually. The battery may have leaked and corroded the contacts in the shutter - clean the battery contacts and make sure the new battery is good.

I'm going to buy another battery and see if it works. Nothing is corroded. I have only used these shutters maybe 3 times since 2014, when I bought them. The switch shouldn't be bad already.

Often times it's something trivial that can be found by just tinkering around a while. No harm in trying.

If you can see the switch try to get an SKU or barcode number off of it and google that, you might get a new switch on-line for a fraction of what the dealer wants. It can't be that hard to change out a switch, probably a simple screwdriver repair.

A lot of such piece parts are standard parts used by many firms and are generically available; I doubt your shutter maker has something so unusual that only they can supply one. For example, Sears sold probably a dozen sizes and varieties of chainsaws but Sears had ZERO factories producing them, they had someone else's factory make them and put Sears' name on them, same for hundreds of thousands of hardware, clothing and food products. Often times the repair parts for a Sears' item was the same as the repair parts for brand name items.

If you wish I will take an educated look. May also recruit Movin1 to join in. Might be fun. Between us I would bet a few dollars that we can pin down the problem.
