I lived in both Chicago and Las Vegas; costs of living out here in the desert are cheaper.

Also, the Vegas valley has a large homeschooling populations. There are a few really strong homeschooling groups, I believe.

Good areas for kids would include Summerlin, Green Valley, Anthem, Centennial Hills, etc. Centennial Hills and the far northwest will likely be the most affordable.

Wow, that shocks me. Usually union electricians are at the top of the pay scale out of all the trades. The union painters make almost that as a foreman/superintendent at the City Center. My understanding is that painters are considered low on the trades totem pole.

Maybe I misunderstand and it isn't a pay thing at all-just an attitude!

I find it hard to believe that the pay for electricians is that low out here. I realize it is a different line of work, but my husband works in the fire service which is also union and makes twice what he made in MI.

No- the majority of the work in LV other than the new hotels on the strip are all non-union. The union discussion was simply to illustrate potential wages, as hubby's likely to get paid less than what the unions pay.

Florida? Ewwww.......talk about low wages- I'd steer clear of there unless you've got a sick and twisted desire for huge bugs, 110% humidity, $5,000/year homeowners insurance policies, and a lack of work unless spanglish is your primary language. Thanks, but no thanks.

The #1 strongest economy in America is Texas.
