Hello Las Vegas Residents,

My husband and I will be moving to Las Vegas around Nov or Dec of this year. I have been searching homes which are for sale and have found quite a few. However, I don't know which areas to really focus on. It seems that in the NW you can find a bigger home for the dollar....does any one know if this is a bad area (crime wise)? My husband will be working in the SW, but it seems the houses tend to be smaller in that area. We will probably only be living in Las Vegas for 3 to 4 years (military) so we want to buy in an area which has good resale value (if you can find that in the economy right now). I have also considered renting but we need a home that has a back yard and will accept dogs. Any information would greatly be appreciated.

Buy a REPO...preferably in an area with few REPOs. The whole west side is fine. Stay someplace convenient to 215 and west of Decatur.

Military in not normally in the SW...Nellis for instance is NE and Creech is NW...actually it is relatively unusual for employers to be located in the SW anymore military. Not trying to argue just make sure you have your directions straight.

Kiddies make a difference. SW schools are pretty good but quite overcrowded. So watch that if kids are involved.

Multiple dogs are a problem on rentals. Not impossible but cuts your options way down.

I am pretty sure on the location. I don't know if it is more SW or just South. My husband will not be working at the base, because he is a recruiter.

Thanks for the tips!

Ahh got it...You guys are the exception to the rule...You are all set try the west side. He can get north and south all day long with little trouble. Hunt along the 215 in tracts built before 2004. Look for REPOs.
