I can't believe this. It just keeps on getting worser and worser. The problem with Nevada is that it NEEDS to attrack non gaming businesses to our state. We can no longer depend on tourism as a way to generate a way of living.

So if your logic is NV needs more "non gaming companies to set foot here". Tell me why California has a 12.1% unemployment rate while the state has a very diverse economy?

i bet the op is like a friend of mine's cousin.... was working in construction at CC making 37. an hour and then was laid off..when asking him about work he was complaining about the unemployment checks he was receiving and that he wanted to go back to work... i said great.. then he said he wouldn't work for any less than 30. an hour...

I don't know anything about the OP but I have noticed quite a bit of that attitude around as well. Its very unfortunate that things aren't what they were a few years ago but many people across the nation are in the same boat and everyone needs to modify their expectations somewhat and become more realistic. I figure that will happen when people's unemployment starts running out.

To the OP...Yes, and people have been saying that for YEARS but Vegas would still be having tremendous problems regardless due to the downturn in the housing industry. CA and AZ are having significant problems as well.

Las Vegas should take a page from Pittsburgh's history books. When all of the steel mills began to close and the economy there began to tank they were forced to look into tech, medical, and banking. Its been done and I think it can be done again with the right tax incentives. I'd imagine a lot of business could be lured away from California due to the tax climate. I think the one thing that may hold Nevada back is a lack of skilled and well educated employees.

You are of the opinion that Carnegie Mellon was staffed by the people who used to work or would have worked in the steel mills?
