The BBC is based in Britain, the writer however, is not. Hence the column title, "From Our Own Correspondent".

Britain knows a lot about gambling, actually. Ask Hugh Hefner why the majority of his Playboy Clubs went under...it was all about gambling in Britain.

That article highlights a very real truth and threat to Vegas: the expansion of gambling in the US and internationally.

In order to grow, Vegas had to offer more than just gambling. And it does. However, as a result, it is now a much truer tourism/destination resort industry that is more susceptible to economic downturns.

Vegas wont ever be the way it was.The only thing that will make it the way it was if 1,000,000 people move here in a year. For the life of me I cannot understand why so many people are wanting to move to vegas and 90% of them have only been here on vacation.I go to other states on this web site and hardly any of them are talking about the things that goes on in this forum.

I think eventually it will, but it is going to get worse before it gets better IMO.

you just answered it... on every other forum no one talks like they do on this one.. there is no place in this country that has the draw that Vegas does.
will there be a 1 million people move here in a year? no, thats half the population and that would be absurd...

even with the economy the way it is, there are still more people moving here than leaving..
