I am looking to move to Las Vegas in July of 2010. I have searched lots of apartments online and found that of all available places to view online, Harbor Island seems to be the most reasonable to live in. Is it a safe area? Is it a safe comnplex? I see some old reviews about prostitution, murder, vandalism, burglary, shootings, etc in the complex but all these reviews are years old. When I called the complex the lady on the phone said the place has done a complete turn around since the new management took over. Is this rreally how it is or just some disgruntled former tenants wanting to discredit the place.
One even said you don't get your deposit back but there is no deposit to get back as they require no deposit, no lease, and only need first payment to move in. It is also all inclusive for a mere $799/mo which makes it sound perfect.
If anyone in the Las Vegas area knows this place I would greatly appreciate any input. If you feel I could do better in a different area or complex please advise where and which complex so I can look into them. Thank You all very much for your help.

The area is difficult. It is in the strip corridor and will undoubtedly have trouble with drugs, hookers etc. After dark those areas tend to be no mans lands.

Like most such places it is as good as its management. In that area the management is virtually certain to be very hard nosed...otherwise they would not survive.

You can do better unless you have to be on that section of the strip. Then it would still be questionable but perhaps worth the risk.

The area is rough and transient. Harbor Island is ok if you just want to stay for a month to get settled, there is some shady characters that ang ut in that neighbourhood

I stayed there for about 3 weeks, 2 years ago. (DV situation, needed someplace cheap til I could find a permanent place)

Downside:VERY small apartments, roaches everywhere. Lots of drugs and some gang activity, lot of welfare families. Cops were there at least every other day. To me, this place was one step up from homelessness. It was very transient, you could pay by the week or the month.

Upside: Grounds were very well kept and security was walking around 24-7. They didn't put up with alot of crap from people or they were out. Apts were furnished with the major stuff, just had to bring kitchen items and linens.

Again, this was two years ago. It looked like they were on their way to cleaning it up then. Personally, I don't know that I would want to live there more than a month or two until I found something more permanent, but that's just me.

Thank you everyone for your comments and advise. After reviewing more threads and locating more data online I have decided that LV may be a greaqt place for a short weekend getaway but it may not be what I am looking for. I left FL to get away from the extrme heat. Looking for a place with a more pleasant milder weather.
