So it's been five years since this thread has been touched...
Does anyone know of a place besides Coinstar and besides rolling coins myself that will turn your coins into cash at a free or reasonable rate??

Station casino chairman can cash in coins for free.

Find some divey casinos somewhere that still do coins in and cash them in at the cashiers cage. Your bank should also let you do it there, that would be easier.

Why is this such rocket science? Open a savings account at a credit union. There may be a minimum required to open, but not much. We use Clark County CU. Then bring your coins in and they run them through a machine and the money is deposited in your account. You can then withdraw what you need, and you have an established account for next time. There is no fee. Why is this so complicated?

Pretty sure if you open an account & don't keep regular banking activity (such as regular deposits/etc), they will charge a fee for the account...which totally offsets the free coin cashing

Not at Clark County Credit Union. We have a couple accounts that have very little activity and we have never been charged a fee. There is a small minimum balance needed, I think about $50. )I opened an account at Wells Fargo last year so I could be paid for a part time job, They took $15 a month and I ended up owing them money before I gt pad, so I closed it.) I think it depends on how many coins one wishes to change and how often. There is no fee at the credit union for coin counting. Certainly worth inquiring.

I can't believe that your own bank, where you keep your personal fortune, would actually charge you to exchange some coins. That's preposterous!

I took my coins to Gold Strike. It was a few years ago now but they counted them for free and gave me paper money in excess of $2000 for my 5 gallon water jug full of coinage.

(No the jug could not be lifted so I had go to the trouble myself of separating the pennies from the nickels from the dimes from the quarters from the half dollars from the SBA dollars from the SGC dollars etc into individual bags that we lugged in there.)
