Yes, that is a black widow which is highly poisonous. Spray it with some heavy duty bug killer.

Flip it over onto it's back if you dare and see if there is a red hourglass.
It definitely looks like a black widow. If they are running around your house, I say call Bug Bully!! Black widow's are usually found in dark corners of your garage, the underside of cluster mailboxes, under the stairs, things like that. Too freaky having them crawling in your kitchen!!

it didn't look like a black widow to me because of the size of the body.

my preference is one well placed shot from a 12 gauge shotgun

If you have a lot of them you might keep a wallboard guy on retainer.

Does not look like a black widow to me either...just big black spider.

I will go talk to Priscilla in the morning and see if she will hold still for a picture. She is a full sized and pushy black widow...She guards my electric box and I guard her. Have not lost a dime from that box in years..

That's not a black widow. First of all it's very doubtful you'd see a black widow wondering around like that unless it was high on bug spray. In that case it's almost dead anyway. Black widows are very secretive and usually stay outside in cracks in walls, and in certain bushes. If you see one inside it's usually in a web near a crack in a door like the garage where it is dark, and they can expect food to come walking by. Black widows make a messy web; not the cool looking ones that some spiders make. No imagination I guess. That one won't hurt you. Black Widows are the only one to worry about, but not all black spiders are black widows. Black widows aren't dull. They look like patent leather, bodies look like round balls, and they have the red hour glass on the stomach. Put him or her outside and don't worry about it. I had two of those wondering around the ceiling in my kitchen the other day. I let the first one go for a few days while she ate her fill of dust mites, and I got tired of watching her. Then when the second one showed up I took the broom and put it under them. When they got on board I carried them out to the garden. You probably have had spider bites while you slept and didn't even know it. You wake up with an itchy bump and think it's a zit. Not to worry.
