When Senator Howard Cannon retired his friends decided to have a fund raiser dinner for him, so they held a luncheon to sell the tables. We got an invite at Ch 3 and for PR reasons couldn't turn down at least going to the lunch. Our manager asked me to go with him. We were sitting in this big room with all the movers and shakers and as I looked around I realized that every mobster in town was in that room. I told my boss that I'm sure we would be seen in several FBI photos. No doubt my pic is in some FBI computer file on the Las Vegas Mob.

I keep forgetting that Jimmy Dean passed away the other day. I'll never forget the time I walked out into the studio at Ch 3, to start getting ready for a show I was directing, and there was this guy pacing back and forth all alone, waiting for the crew to show up. When he saw me he came up and shook my hand and said, "I'm Jimmy Dean", as if he didn't have one of the most recognized faces on earth. He was a friendly, nice man. Tall drink of water too.

The first time I had been to Vegas was in 1994 when I was only 19. I can tell you a lot has changed since then. I wish I would have taken videos.

When I think back to my earliest memories of Vegas, one of the first places that pops into my head is the Landmark Hotel. You early residents will remember when the convention center was shaped like a UFO.
