ok, I am currently in Michigan.

I plan on moving to Las Vegas in the next 3-4 years at the latest.

I am a registered nurse, with an associates. I plan on completing my bachelor before I come, my master if I am motivated.

If my exwife can get her ass in gear, I am moving out sooner.

In 4 years, my son is 18, my daughter is 20, and I am getting the hell out of michigan.

Ok, how much do nurses make out there?

I am ACLS, BLS and hopefully trauma certified. My time is all ICU/CICU/ER. Non of it is floor nursing. I did do a year in an ECF as a LPN, 8 years as an Army field medic 91B10! HOORAH!

So, how much can I expect to make? I make 31.88 an hour now, plus benefits.

I am looking to rent for a year, then buy in Henderson, looking at St. Rose for work.

Be glad you have a job, it's a good thing you not planning on moving for a few years it may be better out here regarding jobs.

St. Rose Dominican Hospitals eliminated 57 jobs throughout three hospitals in Las Vegas as part of a restructuring effort to cut costs in the economic downturn, which was anonce the first week of April this year.

Most of the layoffs were supervisory positions and administrative support, though some nurses are also being laid off, Union contracts will dictate how fast those layoffs occur.

I will repeat myself again from an earlier post that you may have missed.
This is important to know regarding what is going on with the state and local budgets as well as potential layoffs.

Tentative 2010-11 budget would slash 1,077 positions by July 1

The Clark County School Board Wednesday approved a tentative 2010-11 budget that is $30 million short of closing what is now a $141 million gap created by reduced state funding and declining property tax revenues.
North Las Vegas slices capital projects spending

North Las Vegas officials approved a downsized capital projects budget Wednesday and continued to struggle with finalizing employee layoffs

Big gap still exists between city, unions in plans to cut costs

Las Vegas and its employee unions remain far apart on cutting wages, with the city continuing to push for wage cuts while the unions propose giving up some raises and using furloughs to reduce spending next year.

I believe RNs remain in short supply and are readily employable. Particularly the specialties listed.

There are exceptions to all rules....

Highly recommend that you check with DOD (Air Force) or Department of Veterans Affairs since both are always looking for experienced RNs and you have military time. VA is building a new facility slated to open in 2012/13 and nationwide is looking at many retirements that they will need to fill behind.
Best of luck to you in your future moving plans and job search.

Oh yeah, that would be cool. I know that hospitals out there do 12 hour positions. I could never ever work 8 hours, 5 days a week again. If the VA's do it, I could definitely use my 8 years time in grade for some good.

One of the nurses I work with did trauma at UMC for about a year before getting sick of the commute. He was making about $45/hr and benefits, but this was about 18 months ago. I know alot of places have cut back staffing and pay.

According to this website about 64K/yr: RN Salaries in Las Vegas, NV - Free Salary Search | Indeed.com

You have some excellent credentials. I would look at supplemental staffing positions and travel nurse options too. Their are staffing agencies that have benefits as well.

Good luck. Vegas needs quality medical services!
