Yes yes yes and yes. The only difference is that there are more people taking part of the pie. There's a huge Russian/Eastern European mob here, too... and then there are those that participate in corruption but are not part of any ethnic group so to speak. Where there is a lot of money, there is organized crime. The organized crime here is also involved in panhandling, prostitution, and ID theft. It's not so much take 10% of Guido's earnings or else...

Not to mention, dropping 10G's at a club is not money laundering, it's just money spending.

In truth, I think a lot of the classic mafia guys have retired and/or gone legit. The feds eventually got a lot of the big hitters out of business, and the IRS took care of the rest. But after decades of amassing power and wealth it was a pretty easy call just to go legit.

Yes, every city has "organized" crime, but beyond some sophisticated drug and prostitution rings I think a lot of that is nickle and dime stuff for just ordinary hoods. The more savvy guys have moved on to the harder to track computer crimes of ID and credit card theft.

And you hear those stories of human trafficking, but I'm not sure if that's more urban legend or not. Speaking of which, I hear kidney theft is a good racket.

The last mob skimming involved the Continental. Authorities believed that over a period of several months in 1987, coins were scooped out of open slot machines, exchanged for bills and sent to mobsters in New York. Most mob rackets are on the fringe..smaller casinos and strip clubs...tru story

Of course. The nose candy is more lucrative than the slot machines.
