This economy is in it's worst economic state in 80 years, high unemployment, and may very well educated people who are already struggling and doing odd jobs/collecting bottles to make ends meet. What is it that immigrants hope to find in the US?Is it that despite our **** economy and unemployment rate that immigrants still think they have a legit shot at finding a job that pays well enough to make a living? Is it just a safety factor? In the sense that they're political refugees or they just can't risk the high crime rate anymore so they're choosing the US because it's relatively safe in most areas of the country?I guess I don't know what the appeal is. Discrimination is rather high in employment, and with major political focus on immigration it's not like employers are starting to embrace hiring immigrants over long-standing US citizens with college degrees who are still out of work.I'm just curious to understand the appeal of the US from an outsider/immigrant perspective. What's the appeal? Is there a special program for immigrants that gives them a special benefit that I don't know about? Can anyone shed light on this?
In my case, I came from Ireland because my husband is from here (Arkansas), and we lived in Ireland for a few years and now it's his turn to be home But also, as bad as the economy is in the USA, it is worse in Ireland.

Well, the US is hardly target number 1 for immigration.
However, the things the US has that attracts immigrants would be, among others:
Speaks the international language. With English being the international language, many people do not have to learn a new language to come to the USA.
Easier entry. Many of the rich nations are small, population-wise and keep tight immigrant controls so as not to be overwhelmed.
Huge border with Mexico. Pretty much any first-world nation that had a border that length with Mexico would have a lot of Mexican immigrants.
Emigration/immigration is happening world worldwide - mainly from poorer countries to wealthier industrial/western countries. Part of it is to escape persecution but it's mainly in search of a better life and employment opportunities.
Capitalism over Socialism....that is not the reason why we came here, but over here we find out how socialistic our native country was/is...I never realized it while living there...
People over there think it is all for free, although we pay very high taxes but hardly anybody is saying that the taxes are that high because everybody has health care, you pay 19% tax on everything from gas, clothing, car, etc... people think it is for free overthere and then you don't realize how bad the system is...

I could say the same almost word for word, except it was my wife from here. I live in poor America (New Mexico) so the tanking economy never hit us that bad. I didnt get caught up in a mortgage that was way beyond my reach as I never believe what a banker tells me. I could have been though because they tried to get me to get a house 3x what I bought and said I could afford it and I know for sure I couldnt.
Job market wise America is still a pretty good place compared to most, like I said if you didnt run up big mortgage debts like I didnt you can still live here pretty good.
I guess there are many reasons about legal immigration. Some peoples wants to find and provide a better life like latinos or eastern european country (ukrainia, russia, roumania) or of course africa.
In my case maybie one day I will leave in america for 1 ou 2 years or rest of my life ? But what are the reasons according to me ? The first one is I love americans people and all about the history (lincoln, washington, luther king, ect) of this land. I feeling so close to the historic people and even american people. It's difficult to translate my opinion here but in bulk, that is what I think now.
The reason my wife moved here is because, even working in the same job, she went from living here
to living here
If you would like to live were she came from then feel free to move there. I went there for 3 weeks and have never had a reason to complain about the U.S. again.
Peru, but it seems that architectural style is common anywhere south of the U.S.
