went to DMV today to have the address on my ID changed. they couldnt get me into the system saying it's something about my immigration status. i believe my lawyer has not even filed my I485 with USCIS yet since we're still gathering documents at this stage. i just had my I140 approved a month ago.

what's going on here? the DMV told me to wait two weeks for a letter about it or to call infopass. i never knew the driver's license, just changing the address, could be affected by my immigration status. can someone shed some light on this? has anyone experienced this?

The I-140 approval confers no status whatsoever--you need to have the I-485 approved (or at least get the work authorization that can be obtained while it is pending).

Obviously, you are present in the U.S. What is your current immigration status? And what state is this?

Most states will not grant (or extend) a drivers license to someone who does not have a legal immigration status.

yeah right, i DON'T have a legal immigration status. i'm illegal so that's why DMV couldn't process my change of address. yeah right!
