I have a friend, who was brought over from England, with her sister, by the father. They did this when they were in grade school. They are now in their late 20's. My friend is married, and has citizenship. However, her sister has been an illegal for all these years. She has gotten into a real funk, because she can't get a driver's license, and can't get a decent job. She has worked before, but not much history. She doesn't have family in England to go back to. I know that she has a long process, but her fears have been that she will get deported, and her only family is here. There are school records that show when she entered the country. But there isn't any real payroll information, for all I know, she may have been paid under the radar, but for the last several years, she has been getting more depressed, because she feels hopeless. Just fishing for some comments on where to start looking. Thanks in advance.
She should look into Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals Consideration of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) | USCIS to see if she qualifies. It's a temporary thing, and may not last longer than the current Administration, but if she qualifies, she can work permission and, depending on what state she lives in, may be able to get a drivers license. Not all states allow DACA recipients to get DLs, but many do.
