Good morning,

This is my first time posting in this forum and looking forward to learning from everyone!

A friend of mine (he's a US Citizen) is trying to get married overseas. He lives here in the states but his marriage will take place in another country.

My question is, for him to be able to submit all of his spouse papers for spouse visa, what is exactly needed from him? As in:

- What papers are needed from him that he should take with him from the US?
- What process he needs to complete overseas in terms of stamps etc. to make the papers completely valid before returning to the US and applying for the Spouse Visa?
- Does he still need to go to the US Consulate in that country for any specific stamps?
- Is there any phone number here that I can reach out to learn more about this abroad marriage process? Like is it USCIS? Or it's too early for that?

I appreciate your answers in advance!

To Mods: I hope this is the right forum/subforum, if not, please feel free to move it to the correct one

I think you need to contact a good immigration lawyer to ask that question. Every country may be looked at differently as some countries have more credit than others when it comes to marriages and some countries handle marriage differently. Some even allow more than one wife. I assume no answer will cover every scenario.

Overseas... where?
Overseas countries have different laws. He needs to find out what documents he needs to get married there. Then check on this website

Before that he may want to contact his state representatives in his own state first. Sometimes they can help and then you don't need to pay a lawyer. Or they can point you in the right direction to get your questions answered. Then after you do all the leg work you can have a lawyer look it over and it is much less expensive. Legal fees per hour is very expensive and many times you are paying for the legal assistant to do the leg work.
